HANDICAP RULES (Amended Sept 22)

CCOGS COMPETITION and HANDICAP RULES for ‘Qualifying’ (for the purpose of handicap adjustment) and ‘Non-Qualifying’ competitions.

CCOGS handicaps will automatically be adjusted after each Qualifying Competition as follows:

The winner of the trophy will have their handicap reduced by three shots.

Players in 2nd – 4th places will have their handicap reduced by one shot.

Players in 5th – 10th places will have no adjustment made to their handicap.

All other players taking part in the competition will have their handicaps increased by one shot.

Qualifying Competitions are made up of the seven core CCOGS trophies played for each year, which are counting competitions towards the annual ‘Golfer of the Year’ award, as follows:

Spring Trophy

TSB Trophy

Remenham Trophy

Captain’s Cup

Summer Trophy

Autumn Trophy

President’s Salver

The winner of any of these trophies will have their handicap ‘capped’ after that competition and will only be given handicap decreases/increases below that cap until that trophy has been played for the following year’’

All other competitions will be ‘non-qualifying’ competitions and will not be subject to automatic handicap adjustments. The Handicap Committee will, however, consider all performances on their merit following every event and may make adjustment where it is deemed appropriate.

The maximum CCOGS handicap any member can have will be 45.

New members’ handicaps will be assessed by the Handicap Committee when they join - by reference to their club handicaps off yellow tees (where relevant) for gents, red tee’s for ladies, any previous performances within CCOGS and any other information considered relevant by the Handicap Committee.

Guest handicaps will be assessed by the Handicap Committee by reference to their own club handicap off yellow tees (where relevant) for gents, red tee’s for ladies, any previous performances within CCOGS, information provided by their host and any other information considered relevant by the Handicap Committee.

Guests cannot win any CCOGS trophy – but they are eligible for all prizes. In the event that a guest wins first prize the CCOGS member with the best score would lift the trophy and both they and the winning guest would be given the same first prize and any handicap reduction.

Members’ CCOGS handicaps will generally continue into subsequent seasons. The traditional annual handicap review process will, in addition, take into account changes in members’ club handicaps which are considered by the Handicap Committee to be significant enough to merit attention.

The Handicap Committee will, on an ongoing basis, continue to review all individual handicaps and the Handicap Rules themselves and will make any adjustment considered necessary in ensuring that the integrity of the overall system is maintained.
