SEASON 2025 Best of these was Chris Cooling with 21 pts followed by Captain Elect Craig Hughes with 19pts. They both also had special Farm Shop prizes from the Captain. The
"Mystery Pairs" was won by John Bentley
& Chris Cooling. ******************************* A minutes silence was held to remember Ian Ramsay, who did so much for the Society since it's very early days. Our thanks go to
David, Barry, Graham & Captain Lynda
A gorgious summer day greeted our trip to Blundells Hill for a course in exellent condition. Scores generally were very high. The wimnner with 41 points was Elaine Warwick, just out pointing Malcolm Clowes and Barry Bennett with 40 pts each. Fourth was Dave Asprey with 38pts. The only two was Elaine
on 17th which gained her 5pts. Thanks to David, Barry, Lynda and anyone else who contributed to the day.
************************** Held at Hawkstone Park,
where Scores on that first day from first to last had a range of 12 points. With Steve Brown and Phil Lockett on 31 points but Keith Hawthorn winning Pieters Pot on 32 points. Phil scored the only 2 that day. Day 2: weather was less kind with persistent rain from the start. So much so that a number of players retired at the half way stage. The weather brightened up but teased us with more rain as the afternoon progressed. Another tight comp for the Rhodes Bowl with Sarah Parr pipping Craig Hughes on a card play off on 30 points. The Ray Gellatly (scratch) trophy for the 2 days was won by Phil Lockett with 51 points The Tony Parsons Trophy was another tight affair with Steve Brown 4th on 58 points, Phil Lockett 3rd on a card play off with 58, Craig Hughes 2nd on 59 points and the winner Keith Hawthorn on 60 points. An extra prize (bottle of port) was
added for nearest the pin on the 17th hole - won by Mark
Greaves. Pics in Gallery, Nefyn 25 Ian joined CCOGS in 1970 and was the longest serving active member. Having known many of the founders personally and been very integral to the administation from the early days, it was natural for Ian to become our historian. His expertise and knowledge can been seen in the history of the Society section. A prolific winner in his early days and Captain in 1983, Ian was also a prime mover in the various Anniversary celebrations arranged by the society. In the last decade he had provided prizes for both regular events and tours. The Society will be a poorer group without his enthusiasm, knowledge and hard work. Thanks Ian. ************************ Barry Heaps took
the golf balls with the only two. Our thanks go to
David, Barry, Graham, and
Ian Ramsay, who deputised
for the Captain at the presentation. Winner with 36pts was Olive
Watson on a CPO from Captain Lynda Mellor,
Third was Elaine Warwick on 35 pts on a cpo
from Ann Tapp. So the ladies scooped all the main prizes, a unique day in CCOGS history. The only crumb of comfort for the lads was that Craig Highes won the longest drive and Phil Lockett won the Scratch Trophy. Many thanks to Captain
Lynda, David, Barry, Mark and all others who helped to make the
day so successful. TSB Trophy at Hazel
Grove Another
guest Sarah Parr was next with 34 pts. Sarah
has now joined the Society - so welcome Sarah. Sadly the weather was not at its best for Lynda's Drive-in. However, a good number were gather round the first tee to see her on her way. With some rain, winds upto 40mph and a temperature
nearer 4 degrees than the forecast 9, the conditions proved tough for
many. Not surprisingly with shots like that, Phil went on to take the Spring Trophy with 36 points, an excellent effort in the conditions. Second was David Owen on 34pts with Olive Watson third with 33, and Omry Bailey with 30 on a cpo was fourth. Best front 9 was Allan Simon, Best back 9 was John Bentley (welcome back John), The Captain's special new comers prize went to Chris Cooling. Thanks to the Captain for the much needed whisky she provided when we got back. After this, and an excellent meal we set off home in much better spirits. Our thanks go to The Captain,
Dave Owen, Barry Heaps, Mark Greaves and Steve
Brown for organisation of the day. |
